Dear Students,

Welcome back from the Summer and, for those who are new, welcome to HKUST! A new academic year will begin tomorrow, September 1 and the campus is coming more alive again with returning students, new year-1 students and exchange-in students from around the world.

With the commencement of the Fall Term, please keep in mind that getting a high-quality education is the primary purpose of coming to HKUST. Hence, collectively, we need to create a conducive environment for all students to learn, study, and interact together, appreciate different views, and embrace true diversity within our community.

Another critically important issue is Academic Integrity. All HKUST members should uphold a high standard of academic integrity, which is the first point namely Excellence, Integrity, and Academic Freedom among the 5 Core Values of HKUST. As an educational institution, one of the objectives is to inculcate integrity in our graduates, enabling them to be responsible citizens and accountable leaders of society. Hence, HKUST has zero tolerance for cheating and any student found compromising academic integrity will face severe penalties, including termination of study. Regulations governing academic integrity can be found here and more details for different groups of students are in:

Undergraduate Student Guide
Handbook for Research Postgraduate Studies
Handbook for Taught Postgraduate Studies

Finally, we look forward to seeing the vibrant campus life and the enthusiasm radiating from the University community.

p.s. Since the Super Typhoon SAOLA will move towards the coast of eastern Guangdong in the next couple of days, it may affect the classes of September 1. Please find the information on bad weather arrangements here.

Best regards,

Yike Guo, Provost
Jimmy Fung, Associate Provost (Teaching & Learning)
